Welcome to Lake Middle School Physical Education
Students at Lake Middle School will have 12 weeks of physical education. Students will have 6 weeks of outdoor PE and 6 weeks indoor PE. Below is a summary of the indoor/outdoor curriculum as well as what students will need for class.
A good pair of athletic shoes (these do not have to be different from their school shoes so long as they are appropriate for running)
A set of clothes- different from their school clothes, so that they can have a fresh set of clothes to go back to class....t-shirt, shorts/pants, shorts must be at least finger tip length
A combination lock- this is important for their PE lockers in the locker room. A sturdy lock can last them all of their middle school years and more.
Outdoor Physical Education
We will go outside if it is dry and 50 degrees or higher. Students may wear hoodies if they tend to be cold.
Invasion games- football, soccer, 4 corners tag, capture the ball
Track and field- 800m run, 50 yd. dash, long jump
Softball- we play with a "soft" ball that can be caught without a mitt
Pickle ball- on the tennis courts
Target game- Bocce Ball
Weight room- students will go to the weight room approximately once a week to work on strength building and proper lifting technique, the lifts they will be doing will be basic and age appropriate.
Indoor Physical Education
Target game- bowling
Badminton- doubles tournament
Volleyball- The volleyball unit will be organized like a sporting season. The first few days students learn skills, rules of the game, and then they are organized into teams that will be the same for the entire 6 weeks. We chose the SEC Conference as our affiliation this year. So our volleyball teams will choose a team from that conference (the Gators), they will all have jobs, (coach, assistant coach, equipment manager, trainer, statistician, etc....), and we will play volleyball one day each week of the 6 weeks. Teams will keep track of their records, have banners hung in the gym and play in a season ending tournament. It really is a lot of fun and a favorite for a lot of the students.
Invasion games- Basketball, indoor soccer, 4 corners
Projects- 6th Create a Dance, 7th Create a Game, 8th Advocacy
Fitness testing- sit-ups in one min, jump rope in 30 sec, arm hang as long as possible, shuttle run
