Charlie returned to Uniontown after college and he began working in the family’s insurance company, Snyder Agency Inc., which his father started in 1938. After nearly 42 years, Charlie has remained with Snyder Agency Inc., located on Cleveland Ave. in Uniontown. Professionally Charlie has won numerous awards and earned his Charter Life Underwriters in 1972.
While living and working in the Lake community, Charlie has been active in many organizations. Currently he serves the Lake Senior Center board of directors, Lake Rotary (in which he was a president and a treasurer) and the Hattie Larlham board of directors.
He is the past chairman of the Lake YMCA board. In 1989-1990, Charlie was the Volunteer of the Year for the North Canton YMCA. Charlie has served on a selection committee at Lake Local that honored outstanding Lake educators, too.
These are just a few of the activities with which Charlie has been involved. There are many small activities that Charlie works on for the benefit of the community. He is always involved, always behind the scenes, and never seeking the limelight.
Charlie and Jan have been married more than 40 years. They had three children— daughters Jennifer and Kristin and a son, Johnny, who died at the age of three. Both daughters graduated from Lake High School.
Dr. Robert Wilson Jones
Dr. Robert Wilson Jones is a 1949 graduate of Uniontown High School. He joined the Navy that same year. In the Navy, he was trained as an electronic technician. He spent time in Japan and the Marshall Islands.
After four years, Bob returned from the Navy and worked at Goodyear Aircraft for a time before putting himself through four years at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He became a minister and then attended Tennessee Temple at which he received a Master’s Degree in Theology.
Baptist MidMission in Cleveland sponsored Bob in 1960 as a missionary to Brazil. He was a church-builder—he would spend four years to build up a church, provide a minister, and see it up and running, then come home to the States for a year. Then he would return to Brazil to build another church in another four years. He did this for almost 40 years. More than six churches that were started are still going strong. In addition, he helped with a number of other churches.
Bob was presented with an honorary doctor’s degree in 1995. He served with Pressboard, publishing books for churches. He serves on the board of a national Bible college, Pioneer Bible College and supports a college in Brazil for ministers there.
He explored while in Brazil and the surrounding area. He loves Iguaszu Falls—which is larger than Niagara Falls—and the Brazilian people. He and his wife, Corrine, raised four children who grew up in Brazil. His daughter, Darcy, who also graduated from Bob Jones University and taught there, married a minister. She and her husband, Chris Vergeils, have five children and are currently serving in Brazil as missionaries. Corrine died in March 1995.
Bob married Helen Hall in 1999. They currently reside in Maranatha Village Retirement Center, outside Sebring, Florida.
